This boat representatives me him because it is stuck in the harbor and is watching the other boats sail. Also because the boat with the furled sail symbolizes his life. The boat is going anywhere and Gray is thinking that his life he didn’t go to far. The boat was afaird to sail and Gray was afraid to do anything that was meaningful to him.
Matlock’s like is different from Gray’s because Matlock wasn’t afaird to do anything. So she went out and did things, like fall in love and raised a family. The last line means that to love the life you have, you have to have a life to live. That means that you do things you are meaningful to you and do everything that comes your way.
